Here is an interesting thought in regards to the war between DVD's and Blu-ray. Where will it lead us? I thought I would share some study and experience with both to try and answer. this will hopefully assist if you're thinking about switching to blu-ray. Personally I am pleased with the good old DVD but I've observed some advantages of Blu-ray. Here is what I've discovered.

Firstly, Blu-ray discs have far more storage room than DVDs have. While typical DVDs have only 4.7 GB of space, their counterpart discs can keep up to 27 GB - which is 13 hours of regular definition television, or 2-3 hours of HDTV. This obviosly means that you can store longer or higher quality motion pictures and extra features on Blu-ray.
Another advantage is Blu-ray discs are physically more durable than normal blank CDs or DVDs. They are more resistant to scratches. This means that they are also fantastic for computer information and gaming.
Just because you purchase a Blu-ray player (or Blu-ray software) does not mean you need to replace all of your DVDs. All Blu-ray players are compatible with DVDs which means that all your DVD movies will work just fine. Most players also "upconvert" your DVDs; in other words, they increase the definition of your regular DVD to a better image for HDTVs. If you've a substantial collection, you'll be able to still view them in higher than regular definition (though it's still not HDTV).
Far and away the most notable benefit of Blu-ray hasn't truly been explored in this post yet. This is HD TV. When played on a HD TV the picture will probably be a lot better than if you were playing a DVD. You'll have superb audio and video quality. Imagine your audio system sounding ten times better than before.

Over all both of these media formats provide a great deal. I am positive they are going to both continue to improve as well over time and provide more and more for our viewing and playing pleasure. Which ever 1 you prefer is undoubtedly working for you just the way you want. So why change right?
